Takitumu Conservation is located on the south-eastern side of inland Rarotonga. This area covers 155 hectares of upland forest, scrub and fernland and has played a major role in protecting one of the world's rarest landbirds, the Kakerori (Rarotonga Flyer). Takitumu
Conservations is also responsible in transferring the Kakerori to the island of Atiu and also home for the Kukupa, unique native bird and the introduced Myna birds and long tailed Cuckoo. This area contains 70% of all the plant species found inland Rarotonga, including the Pua Neinei, the Rarotongan Orchid and rare ground orchid.

A unique eco tourism venture because it is managed by the landowners and uses it profits to assist support and help ensure the survival of the endagered birds of Rarotonga.
